Why We Made Wrestlaholic

Shayne Merriman: Host, Co-Founder, and Editor-in-Chief

Wrestlaholic is the brainchild of Brendan Mizgala and myself, and just like you we are wrestling fans. Actually, we are addicted to professional wrestling more than anything else.

Now, I can’t speak for Brendan on this part, but for me wrestling is therapeutic. When life gets too heavy or too hard, as it does for all of us, I can always turn on the WWE Network, or NJPW World and watch a good ol’ wrasslin’ match and forget why I was down in the first place.

I don’t know what match it is for all of you, but for me, its one of three. Either Jeff Hardy winning his first ever WWE Championship at Armageddon 2008, or him versus Undertaker on RAW in a ladder match for the Undisputed Championship. Both of those matches supply an instant pick-me-up for me. Even though Jeff loses in one, it’s such an excellent match that I feel better when it’s over.

That’s what wrestling is. We created Wrestlaholic to cover wrestling the way it deserves to be covered. Sure, we may be harsher on some promotions or wrestlers than others, but it’s only because we love this sport so much, and yes it’s definitely a sport, that we hate to see it fail. We want wrestling always to be the best it can be.

Wrestlaholic is our answer to all the other wrestling coverage websites that only try to get clicks and views and don’t care about the content they produce. We actually want you guys to be entertained when you’re reading our articles. We take pride in our work, and we want you to take pride in reading it.

Because of this, you won’t see many breaking news stories on this website. While we may, in the future, cover some breaking news stories, we mainly want to give you, the reader and the fan, a site where you can come to get good opinions on wrestling. We want to be the site you turn to when you’re tired of reading about all the bad news in wrestling.

As far as we’re concerned Twitter is where we will be breaking most of our news.

We hope, one day, to be a mainstay in the wrestling community. A beloved site that everyone speaks highly of. We know that to be able to do that it will take a lot of hard work.

We are willing to put in that work too. Are we going to be perfect along the way? No. But we’re going to try our best to be. Because that’s what you all deserve, you deserve a website, podcast, and YouTube channel that will work hard to entertain, and inform you all every day.

We hope you enjoy every facet of Wresltaholic, and we hope you join us for the ride.

Brendan Mizgala: Co-Host, Co-Founder, and Editor

Professional wrestling has been a part of my life for 20+ years. When I was a kid, I remember seeing the Undertaker working on a casket in his shop, and I was hooked. Soon after that, I saw Shawn Michaels, and I knew this was for me.

Now I had the short period where I fell out of love with wrestling as most fans do. There wasn’t any honest reason and if you asked me I don’t even think I could take one. But one Monday I was flipping through the stations and RAW was on as it always was, I stopped for a few moments and wound up never changing the channel.

We as wrestling fans are in a period that we haven’t seen in close to 20 years. There are so many great options to get your fill of the wrestling world. If WWE isn’t your thing, there’s NJPW, ROH, Impact and so many more. Since the days of the Monday Night War that dad haven’t had options like this.

I met Shayne through our work with Daily DDT, which is a fantastic website where writer’s from all over get to shake their ideas. Through a few conversations, we both realized we wanted to do something bigger for we wrestling fans. So we decided to create Wrestlaholic. First came the podcast, which has been a blast, then the website, and soon a YouTube channel and merch.

My goal, as well as Shayne’s, is to deliver as much content to other fans that will make them continue to love this amazing sport. Each and every time I sit to write, edit an article or turn on the mic, I don’t do it as someone trying to start a business, I do it as a fan.

Thank you to each and every one of you that have listened to an episode, read one of our articles or has just chatted with us on Twitter. YOU are why we do this.
