Hallelujah! WrestleMania season is upon us. The Showcase of the Immortals is a little over a month away, and the Mania card seems to be taking shape. In this article, I make predictions of what we could see at WrestleMania 34 and the potential outcomes for each match. Here we go!
A new Cruiserweight Champion will be crowned at WrestleMania. The Cruiserweight tournament is starting to wind down, and we will soon have the final two competitors for the vacated championship. I believe we are looking at a Cruiserweight Finals match between Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali. These two superstars are amazing to watch in the ring with their fast-paced action and high flying moves. I do believe this will be a pre-show match, which is sad because these men deserve to be on the main card.
However, with Triple H at the helm of the Cruiserweight division, I believe the cruiserweights will be given a lot of freedom to perform. This match may steal the show. Also, there are rumors about Cruiserweight Tag Team titles being revealed after WrestleMania. Keep an eye out for that. Big things could be in store for the Cruiserweight Division.
The Club vs. The Miztourage
This match seems like another pre-show attraction. The men involved in this match have had an ongoing war of words on Twitter to set up this feud. They have clashed recently, with The Club making the save for Finn Balor in his match against The Miz.
I believe Gallows and Anderson go over in this match, which hopefully bodes well for them after WrestleMania. These men deserve the main event spotlight in the tag team division on whatever brand they reside.
By teaming with Balor, we get the Bullet Club reunion we have wanted for a long time. Hopefully, WWE will pull the trigger (wink, wink) and allow the three of them to have a good run.
For Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel, they will resort back to being The Miz’s sidekicks and enhancement talent. This is sad considering the promise both men showed when they debuted on the main roster. We shall see what their future holds.
Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
This match will probably close the pre-show. It will be a tough one to call for a potential winner as we usually don’t find out who is participating in the match until a week or two before WrestleMania, as well as during the entrances for the match. Look for the return, and possible send-off, of the Big Show during this match. There may be another celebrity or pro athlete appearance in the match to garner mainstream news attention for the WWE.
Sasha Banks vs. Bayley
This match has been teased for a while now. We saw the semi-heel turn at Elimination Chamber with Sasha kicking Bayley off of the pod. But Bayley returned the favor on RAW. It’s hard to say which one will turn heel, but the smart money is on Sasha to return to her “LEGIT BOSS” roots and become a heel.
Bayley can be a money babyface if given the right push and support. With the WWE in the midst of pushing their women superstars further and further up the card, Bayley can be that star.
I’ll play devil’s advocate, too. Sasha is a money making heel character, but she does have the support of the fans. She, also, can be the face of the Women’s Evolution in WWE and be the top babyface female on whatever brand she competes. For this match, I see both superstars coming into this match as faces, but by the end of the night, Bayley goes over on Sasha, causing Banks to turn heel and be the LEGIT BOSS once again.
The Usos vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers – Smackdown Live Tag Titles
The Usos and The New Day renew their epic rivalry at Fastlane. These five men have put on a tag team clinic every time they step foot into the squared circle. With the recent interactions between The Usos, New Day and the Bludgeon Brothers, look for Harper and Rowan to interfere in the match.
This will lead to a triple threat match at WrestleMania 34. In that match, look for some amazing spots from these men. In the end, I believe the Bludgeon Brothers go over and win the Smackdown Live tag team titles. I wouldn’t be surprised if they received a little assistance from certain “eater of worlds.”
Woken Matt Hardy vs. Bray Wyatt
This rivalry has been building for quite some time. When Hardy was on the independent scene, he had some Twitter interactions with Bray Wyatt. Fans went crazy wanting and hoping to see that match. Although we have had a few matches between these two men, they have not competed on the ultimate battleground – the Hardy Compound.
On RAW, Hardy sentenced Wyatt to the Ultimate Deletion and invited Bray to his compound. Look for this match to be filmed before WrestleMania. I’m not sure where on the card it will be placed, but my guess is it will probably be a pre-show match. Considering the negative reaction the WWE received for the House of Horrors match last year, I don’t see this one ending up on the main card. Look for Woken Matt Hardy to win this match with some assistance from Queen Rebecca, King Maxel, Senor Benjamin, Vanguard One and a returning Brother Nero.
The Bar vs.??? – RAW Tag Team Championships
Sheamus and Cesaro issued an open challenge to any team who wished to face them at WrestleMania for their RAW tag team titles. The wrestling world did raise an eyebrow when Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks responded to a tweet from Sheamus issuing an open challenge. While this would be an amazing match, it’s virtually impossible since Matt and Nick are locked up with Ring of Honor until the end of 2018.
As far as actual opponents for The Bar, look for the Authors of Pain to make their main roster debut against the Celtic Warrior and the Professional, winning the match and becoming the new RAW Tag Team Champions.
Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn
Whenever you put Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn into a one-on-one match, DO NOT leave your seat. These two men have put on classic match after classic match. I really don’t know how much more I can write about this one. I know I’m doing this match a disservice by not writing a whole lot, but it’s Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
They work great together, and although we have seen this match many times before, there is something special when Owens and Zayn fight, especially on the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All!” Like the slogan says – “Fight Forever.” Look for this match to be one of the matches of the night, with Kevin Owens going over on his best friend, Sami Zayn.
Bobby Roode vs. Randy Orton vs. Jinder Mahal – United States Championship
This match could be seen made a mile away. The interaction between these three superstars has been brewing for several weeks now.
Look for interference from Jinder Mahal at Fastlane to set up the Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania.
In this match, I think you will see a heel turn by Bobby Roode, a role he is better suited for. I believe Randy will win the match since the WWE has been hyping up the fact that it is the only title that has eluded The Viper. Jinder will eventually become the United States Champion, but not until down the road. In New Orleans, the former 13-Time World Champion will add another championship to his trophy case.
Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka – Smackdown Women’s Championship
This match has been rumored ever since Asuka made her debut on the main roster. The WWE has been hinting around for weeks that Asuka will be facing the champion at WrestleMania, but not specifying which champion.
One week, Michael Cole stated Asuka would face Alexa Bliss, but the next week it was back to Asuka facing the champion of her choosing.
On Twitter, Charlotte sent a tweet stating she was the best in the business. Look for Asuka to show up at Fastlane after Charlotte defeats Ruby Riott to announce her intention of challenging Flair for her title. At WrestleMania, Asuka’s undefeated streak continues as she will defeat Charlotte Flair by submission, and join the blue brand.
Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax – RAW Women’s Championship
These best friends will finally lock horns at WrestleMania.
This feud was teased several months ago but was quickly squashed a week later. After RAW this past week, Alexa gave her version of a pep talk to Nia, and WWE started planting the seeds of their feud. Look for some sort of backstage video showing Alexa talking bad about Nia Jax to Mickie James, leading to their eventual match at WrestleMania. At Mania, I believe Nia will finally win her first RAW Womens title, beating her best friend.
The Miz vs. Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins – Intercontinental Title
These three men are some of the best performers in the WWE today. Each of them could be the flag bearer for a brand if they were given the opportunity. Seth has already been put in that position and was successful.
Finn was about to take that journey until an injury derailed it. The Miz has briefed the WWE Champion but never given a good run with the title. The 2018 version of The Miz is head and shoulders above his past versions. Look for this match to be another potential show stealer.
This is a hard one to predict, but with The Miz and Maryse’s baby due soon, I think we see Finn Balor get the win by pinning The A-Lister. Rollins will put on another amazing performance and position himself for another run at the Universal Title.
Kurt Angle & Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H & Stephanie McMahon
As witnessed this past Monday on RAW, the match was made for WrestleMania. Although it was supposed to be The Rock and Ronda vs. Hunter and Steph, the seeds of a feud between Angle and Triple H were planted at Survivor Series.
This will be Ronda’s debut match in the WWE. I foresee Angle and Hunter carrying the load for the majority of the match with Ronda and Stephanie getting the spots in.
In the end, look for Ronda to secure her trademark armbar on Stephanie for the submission victory.
In a bit of fantasy booking, don’t be surprised if you see Angle get taken out backstage before this match occurs. With Hunter and Stephanie in the ring, Ronda will stand at the top of the entrance ramp ready to go until a familiar entrance blares through the loudspeakers – “IF YOU SMELL…..WHAT THE ROCK…..IS COOKIN!” The Rock joins Rousey and gives us another WrestleMania moment. Like I said, a little fantasy booking. I do see Ronda getting the submission victory, but don’t be surprised if The Rock does show up and help Rousey and Angle secure the victory.
John Cena vs. The Undertaker – Career vs. Career
John Cena planted the seeds for this match on RAW a week ago. This match is happening. There’s no way the WWE puts this out there without delivering. At Fastlane, Cena will go for the pin in an attempt to win his 17th world title. The ref gets to the mat and counts 1…2…and the lights go out. The familiar gong will hit. When the lights come back on, The Undertaker will be standing in the ring behind Cena. When Cena turns around, Taker will give Cena a chokeslam, allowing AJ Styles to cover him for the win.
Cena and Taker will go back and forth for the next few weeks leading up to WrestleMania. Look for a stipulation to be added, like Career vs. Career.
At last year’s WrestleMania, The Undertaker received the proper sendoff. While he should stay retired, this is the one match Vince has probably wanted for a long time and is finally getting it.
Cena will carry this match. I’m hoping for a hybrid version of The Deadman and the American Badass version of The Undertaker for this match. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a no disqualification match or no holds barred match. Cena gets the win, ending Taker’s tremendous career. The two warriors will meet at the top of the ramp for another WrestleMania moment.
AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura – WWE World Heavyweight Title
In what should be the main event of the night, Styles and Nakamura renew their rivalry first started in New Japan Pro Wrestling. At Wrestle Kingdom 10, Styles and Nakamura put on an instant classic with Shinsuke getting the win.
On the Grandest Stage of Them All, Styles and Nakamura lock horns one more time. I hope Vince allows these two amazing performers to put on the match they want. Let them call their match. If given that freedom, this match will be the match of the night.
In the end, I believe AJ Styles gets his revenge, beating Shinsuke Nakamura and retaining his WWE World Heavyweight Title. But this rivalry will be far from over.
Brock Lesnar (w/ Paul Heyman) vs. Roman Reigns – WWE Universal Title
We have known for almost a year that this was the planned main event for WrestleMania 34. Whether we wanted to believe it or not, it was happening.
Here are my three possible scenarios I foresee happening.
Reigns gives Lesnar the Goldberg Survivor Series treatment, spearing Brock several times and defeating him convincingly. With Brock most likely leaving for the UFC, Vince does not want a repeat performance of WrestleMania 20 when Goldberg and Lesnar both left after the show. With a quick, decisive victory, it will shake the fans and hopefully give Vince the moment he has been waiting for – the fans cheering for Reigns as he wins the Universal Title.
Lesnar and Reigns go back and forth in a grueling match, but the fans will be booing heavily. Lesnar cheats to win, retaining his Universal Title. That is until we get a repeat of WrestleMania 9 when Hulk Hogan defeated Yokozuna after Yokozuna had defeated Bret Hart. With Lesnar celebrating in the ring, either Vince, Hunter or Kurt Angle will make an appearance saying this is not how WrestleMania will end. With that being said, Braun Strowman’s music hits.
The Monster Among Men makes his way to the ring. Lesnar hits an F5 on Strowman, only for Braun to pop up, pick up Lesnar and powerslam him multiple times. Strowman covers Lesnar and gets the victory, becoming the new WWE Universal Champion. The Superdome erupts, and Strowman finally gets the title he has been pursuing for a while.
Sometime between now and WrestleMania, Braun Strowman is inserted into the main event, making it a Triple Threat match. At the end of the night, there will be a new WWE Universal Champion, and that champion will be Roman Reigns.
Come on now. Vince has been planning this for years, but Roman has earned it. He has been a workhorse for years now. No matter how much the fans boo, Reigns will win. Granted Strowman is super over with the fans now, it’s time for the Roman Empire to reign once again.
WrestleMania 34 should be a great card. Hopefully, it will not drag on like last year’s event. The main roster will most likely have a tough act to follow with NXT Takeover New Orleans taking place the night before, as well as Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor XII. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. It’s time for WrestleMania!
