Wrestlemania 34 is the stage for the eagerly awaited debut of Ronda Rousey, but what should fans expect from the ex UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion?
“Rowdy” Ronda Rousey has had a superb career up until now as she won the bronze medal for Judo at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games at the age of 21. Rousey then saw MMA as her career path, and after impressing UFC President Dana White with her performances in Strikeforce, the UFC created a Women’s division for the first time with Ronda being the first Woman ever signed for the UFC and the first ever UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion. Rousey went on to defend her belt six consecutive times, all while changing the landscape of Women’s MMA forever.
This success led to her being considered as one of the biggest Female stars in combat sport even despite her last two losses. Rumors were circling for months surrounding Ronda signing with the WWE after she confessed she is a huge fan of Pro Wrestling with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper being one of her idols growing up.
After months of rumors, Ronda Rousey shocked everyone when she turned up at the 2018 Royal Rumble and indicated she would be part of Wrestlemania as she pointed to the sign numerous times.
The weeks following led to the current feud with Stephanie McMahon and Triple H with the match announced to take place at Wrestlemania 34.
Stephanie McMahon is an interesting first opponent for Ronda Rousey as this will limit what Ronda will be able to showcase, but maybe that is a good thing. It will allow Rousey to show her skills and demonstrate her dominance but having Triple H and Kurt Angle also in the match will mean the spotlight is not just on her and will let Rousey perform her big moves and not necessarily “wrestle.”
It is clear that Ronda Rousey has an unbelievable work ethic and I believe she will succeed in whatever she puts her efforts into as that is what she has done throughout her career but choosing to have her match as a mixed tag match is the right decision.
The fans should expect a dominant performance from Rousey as she will most likely use moves we have seen her perform on members of Absolution and Dana Brooke with perhaps a few more submission moves but do not expect an excellent wrestling match from her…yet.
